How to choose a wig

Choosing a wig is easier when you decide a few things in order: how you will wear it, what hair type fits your budget, and which style suits your face and routine. Here is how we walk customers through it on River Road.

1. Decide how you will wear it

For a quick everyday look, a wear-and-go or closure wig is the easiest. If you want a more natural hairline, look at lace wigs. Short styles such as pixie cuts and bobs are light, easy to style and need less maintenance than long wigs.

2. Human hair, human hair blend or semi-human?

Human hair feels the most natural, can be styled and coloured with care, and generally lasts longest, so it costs more. Human hair blends and semi-human wigs are more affordable and give a natural finish with easy styling. Each product page on our site states the hair type, so you can compare before you buy.

3. Closure, lace or frontal

A closure wig has a small section at the parting that blends with the rest of the hair. Lace wigs have a sheer lace hairline for a natural look at the forehead. Braided frontals give a protective, neat finish. If you are new to wigs, a closure wig is a simple place to start.

4. Length and colour

Short and bob lengths are low-maintenance and suit warm weather. Medium and long lengths give more styling options but need more daily care. For colour, natural black is the safest everyday choice; rooted or ombre colours such as 1/30 give depth and brighten the face without a full colour change.

5. Set a budget

Our wigs start from KSh 1,500 and go up to KSh 7,500, with weaves from lower prices. Decide your range first, then filter by hair type. Remember to budget for care products so the wig keeps its look.
